DJ of the Month: Jim Thomas

Our DJ of the month for March 2021 is Jim Thomas! To celebrate, we asked Jim some questions to learn more about his show.

Q: What kind of music do you play on your show?

A: Rap for the main part.

Q: What got you into this music?

A: I think realizing that there is so many different types of rap to explore; there is something for everyone with so many new artists innovating the genre all the time. There is so much talent in the underground and mainstream right now and has been for more than 30 years. You can never dig deep enough.

Q: What artists inspire you?

A: The Strokes, Madlib, Jack White, DOOM, The Clash, Outkast, Mach-Hommy

Q: If you could travel back to any musical era, what would it be and why?

A: Early 2000s New York, so much good music happened in such a small period of time. The Strokes, Interpol, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The White Stripes, so many more all releasing classic albums and seeing that all unfold would be unreal.

Q: What other organizations are you involved in?

A: I did play intramural soccer, excited for that to start again soon hopefully.

Q: What do you study?

A: I’m a WRTC major and a music industry minor.

Q: What got you into radio?

A: Wanting to connect with people who have the same passion for music as I do.

Q: What’s your favorite part about WXJM?

A: It’s a cool space to give a platform to new music and local creativity. Contributing to the zine as well, I love having the chance to showcase new albums and artists.
